Guerrilla Girls retrospective | UMOCA

February 4, 2020, Adam Michael Terry composed and performed a live score with Bassist Chelsea Pearl Laterza for the opening of the exhibition at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. The composition’s intent was to enhance the Guerrilla Girls’ work by avoiding the same audio range of women’s voices to keep the conversational nature of the work at the forefront of the exhibition. The speaker placement on the ground helped to keep the ear/mouth air space uncongested by the score.

The ambient moods of the score include elements of suspense, sorrow, power, anger, and contemplation.

The Guerrilla Girls are an anonymous group of activist artists. They use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose bias and corruption in politics, art, film, and pop culture. They have done hundreds of projects (posters, actions, books, videos, stickers) all over the world, as well as interventions and exhibitions inside museums, blasting them on their own walls for their discriminatory practices.
